DOCK RECEIPT IN INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING USING SEA FREIGHT SERVICES

Formally a dock receipt in international shipping using sea freight is a document issued by an sea freight carrier to acknowledge receipt of sea freight shipment at the carrier's shipping terminal (CFS - Container Freight Station with LCL, CY - Container Yard with FCL, Carrier's Pier in RO-RO and Break Bulk etc). In international shipping using LCL sea freight service, ocean freight carrier's dock receipt also verifies weight/measurement (W/M) of cargo received by the shipping terminal (CFS).

However, in respect of dealing with international shipping companies (freight forwarders or NVOCC) a Dock Receipt is an international shipping document provided to international shipper in purpose to deliver cargo to direct carrier's shipping terminal. You may consider international shipping company's Dock Receipt to you a "Ticket for your international sea freight shipment". Dock receipt is surrendered to the shipping terminal. Weight/measurement (W/M) information in the dock receipt will be verified by the shipping terminal. Finally an Ocean freight Bill of Lading will be issued by ocean freight carrier, based on verified W/M information in the Dock Reciept.

Generally, with certain exceptions (for example, when deliver a motor vehicle to an ocean freight carrier's pier without a power of attorney given to the delivery driver), shippers do not have to be presented at a time of submitting sea freight to the international shipping terminal. Any authorized by shipper individual or company may deliver ocean freight to the shipping terminal on shipper's behalf. Once again: International shippers may consider Dock Receipt a "ticket to the international ocean freight shipment".

Dock Receipts in international shipping may be furnished to international shippers in different ways: via fax, e-mail, a hard copy by tracker when shipping freight FCL etc.
